THE STORY SO FAR...

Rat Babies is a three piece grungy bass heavy-hitting swamp-metal band based out of Athens, GA with Mux on bass, Toby aka "Chodd" on drums, and more recently, Tim on guitar. Currently Rat Babies is spreading their rabies across Athens and most of the rest of the southeast at one of their many shows, with one full length album and four EPs out now, on multiple compilations, and of course with much more in the works.

Rat Babies was born in March '06 when Mux and Moldy (former guitarist) began working on songs and realized that their styles, with Mux's low ended heavily distorted bass and Moldy's wildly screaming lead guitar, worked well together. The excitement grew everyday and so they started looking for a heavy hitting drummer to round out the sound. Suddenly, a drummer friend, Chodd, became available and was looking to do some heavier music. The first session with Chodd cemented him into the sound that Rat Babies was shooting for. From that point as a three piece Rat Babies didn't hold back and began playing show and recording within a few months. Moldy eventually had to leave the band and move back to his home town of Pensacola FL where he is currently in the band Stone Avenue. Also for a short time Rat Babies added a second drummer named Jon "The Waitress" Crandell (currently in Candy Maldonado) which gave them a more tribal sound, but due to personal conflicts Jon was asked to leave the band, yet still has remained friends to this day. Since then Rat Babies went on as a two piece until recently when Tim Vance joined as guitarist.

In June of 2006 Rat Babies released their first mini three song EP entitled "I Know... Search For Knives" along with a plethora of other merch like buttons and patches (all available from the website). The next EP "Friends Fade and Disappear" was released October 2006 at Rat Babies first 40 Watt gig (Oct 18th), that show was recorded and released later as the next EP "Jesus Don't Want Me In Heaven". Rat Babies has also been featured on multiple compilations (Rabblerouser Music Compilation, Rabid Goat Records Comp, Gypsies Killing Unicorns Comp, Hail Shitar Comp, ect.) released all over the world. Recently Rat Babies released a full length rarities LP "The Complete Guide To Caring For Your Rat Babies Vol #1" that included a bonus DVD in time for their 2009 tour, plus another EP release soon after called "Smokers Cough Medicine"... and is working on new material which should be released soon. Other merch is also available (Buttons, Stickers, Posters, and Tshirts) at shows and from our website.

It all started in March of '06 with the first spur-of-the-moment show at the house venue "Your Mom's House II" in front of 4 or 5 friends, with just Moldy and Mux playing and screaming with no PA. Then, Rat Babies first official show was at Tasty World's "Deep Dark Wednesdays" on 5-3-06 with Polemic and Mouser. Now, Rat Babies are booking regular shows all around the southeast, and planning future tours.

Mux was formerly in "Slut Junkies", "Drinking Mercury", and "Static Porn" on bass and vocals; and currently also has a few side project called "Mr Blank", "The Orchestra Of Broken Toys", and "Mr Blank's Carnivale Of Black Hearts". Chodd was formerly in "The Ice Caps" on drums. Tim was formerly in "Divided Like A Saints" and "Oh, No They Didn't".
