Manifesto:

It is a must for DIY methodology to survive into this 21st century. We have new technologies and techniques given to us masses by the great wheel of production. So we put down our chisels and stone thus taking up our graph wire tablets, high speed copiers and gigabyte PCs to provide our modern message of ancient angst. Zinesters, Publishers, Crafters, Musicians, Comic Artists, and others... we must all gather together to create a community of minds and raise our collective voices to speak this message for it to be heard.

Zine-A-Polooza is the place for like-minded creators to meet, discuss, and share their voices with one another and the eyeing public. This is a DIY experience thus it can only be accomplished with you and through you. Our goal is to establish a yearly multi-media event for the purpose of promoting all forms of DIY creative media. By doing this, we hope to build upon the local community of independent DIY creators and encourage communication between creator and potential audience.

Zine-A-Polooza's message is that zines are just as valuable to the DIY small press community as any other avenue of expression, and so we have organized this zine event to show you what we mean. But at the same time, we are not forgetting about the rest of the small press or any of the other numerous creative art forms (crafts, print, film, music and more) while we are doing the zine thing. Therefore all aspects of the DIY community are welcome and encouraged within this convention. Won't you join us there?

Zine-A-Polooza's Story:

How did the Zine-A-Polooza get started?

Years ago Mux Productions sponsored the opening of a DIY music venue in the Gwinnett county area (first called Penumbra, and then later reopened as Warehouse One) and at the time had tons of ideas for different events that they would have liked to host there. The idea of Zine-a-Polooza began as a way to off-set many of the already existing comicbook convention that never really focused on zines. So the idea was born but set on the back burner so to speak. After some time, and the closing of the music venue, friends at the non-profit company GIRAF Network Inc. re-approached Mux Productions with the idea because they were ready to help make it a reality. So, Mux Productions and GIRAF Network Inc. joined forces to co-produce and co-present the event. The Zine-A-Polooza '05 Planning Committee was born when Mux Productions' experiences with zine production and distribution, and booking bands came together with GIRAF Network's experience with underground comicbook production, to give shape to the idea of the Zine-A-Polooza event. Through much frustration and worry, we worked our asses off to bring you the best experience we could that first year in 2005. After two years holding this event in Gwinnett County we are moving it to Atlanta's own Little 5 Points community this year to better facilitate the event and it's attendees with a more creative atmosphere. Now in 2007, Mux Productions and GIRAF Network Inc present the third annual Zine-A-Polooza one day DIY media exposition the weekend of November 3rd at the Little 5 Points Community Center. We invite everyone to attend whether or not you have previously been a fan of zines and underground comics, because there will be much fun to be had and tons to see as Zinesters of all sorts exhibit their zines and mini-comics. Entrance is only $5 (kids under 7 free), tabling is FREE, and a portion of proceeds go toward GIRAF Network's non-profit "OutReach" and "Art Awareness in Education" charity programs.
